Chile peppers have become such an enjoyable part of our respective cultures that they've inspired a number of holidays that either directly celebrate a particular variety of chile pepper, or the variety of things chile peppers make possible.
Below, are holidays that pay tribute chile peppers (directly or indirectly), along with a few holidays for the growers of chile peppers. If we've missed one, be sure to let us know. Additionally, there are a number of annual regional festivals that celebrate chile peppers.
While we we're pleased to know that November is National Pepper Month, we find it disappointing that we're not able to find a day dedicated to the chile pepper. We've found a few mentions of August 5th (which happens to be Green Peppers Day) or September 15th, but neither have enough confirming sources, nor sufficient background information, to say with confidence that such an annual celebratory day exists. Given the holidays chile peppers have inspired and their importance within many cultural recipes, one would think they should have their own special day of recognition and celebration.
